Antibiotics Cause Asthma?
Health Update jcox Tuesday 26 June 2007 - 12:19:51

A recent study by the University of Manitoba found a strong link in infants between the use of antibiotics and the development of childhood asthma.  According to the results, infants who were administered four or more courses of “broad spectrum” antibiotics (which are designed to kill a broad range of bacteria) had a 46 percent increase in asthma during their childhoods.  Ironically, these antibiotics were most regularly prescribed to treat respiratory tract infections.  The doctors who performed the study warned against the use of broad spectrum antibiotics during the first year of life, especially when there are safer alternatives available.
Here at Cox Family Chiropractic, we offer a wide range of alternative therapies designed to support a healthy respiratory system without the danger of adverse side effects.  For more information, feel free to call and set up an appointment with our doctor.
