As a chiropractic wellness center, we provide a variety of services. In order to ensure that our patients are knowledgeable about their treatment we would like to clarify how the various services are charged. Our goal is to provide you with superior service in all areas of your care, including your finances. The following is an explanation of existing billing practices, not new policies.
Chiropractic Adjustments:
This service includes discussing your symptoms, the adjustment itself, and instructions for follow-up care. If the doctor performs any diagnostic tests, you will be charged for an exam. Adjustments are usually covered by insurance, including Medicare, but will probably be subject to deductibles, co-pays, and annual maximum coverage.
Examinations:
These services include orthopedic and neurological tests, the computerized Insight™ scans, as well as other tests ordered by Dr. Cox. The initial exam does not include an adjustment, as Dr. Cox reviews all test results before the first adjustment. However, re-exams usually include an adjustment, unless Dr. Cox needs to review your test results first. Periodic exams are generally required and covered by insurance. Medicare requires periodic exams to prove medical necessity for adjustments, but does not pay for them.
Wellness / Nutritional Services:
These services are not included in the adjustment or covered by insurance. They include: progress visits for supplements prescribed by Dr. Cox, reviewing supplements brought in from outside, blood work or other tests brought in for Dr. Cox to analyze, reviewing medications, clinical opinions or recommendations for family members, and all other non-chiropractic services. Allergy and emotional clearings are also in this category.
Diagnostic Testing:
The only test that may be covered by insurance is x-rays, except for Medicare, which does not pay for x-rays done in a chiropractic office. The other tests performed here, including hormone studies, hair mineral analysis, the Meridian Stress Assessment, and the Creating Wellness Assessment are cash services, not covered by insurance or included in an adjustment.
Physical Medicine:
The therapies performed in our office may be covered by insurance, depending on the service and on your insurance policy. Chiropractic therapies like the ultrasound and electrotherapies are usually covered, except by Medicare. Alternative health care therapies, such as the detoxification bath and the Biotec, are cash services. Other therapies, such as the laser, depend on your insurance policy.
